Kapuk / Goalposts 1998- : Ábel Szalontai

A KAPUK sorozat darabjait intenzíven és koncentráltam készítem, több mint tizedik éve. Fontosnak érzem, hogy sikerült rákényszeríteni magam valaminek az alapos megismerésére. Rám jellemzőnek gondolom, hogy addig ismételgetek valamit, amíg nem tudom valaminek a titkát megfejteni, amíg nem jövök rá a lényegére. Jártam a világot, egy ideig a felfedezés öröme hajtott, aztán arra döbbentem rá, hogy az az egyszerű geometriai helyzet, amit az elhagyott vagy még használatban lévő kapuk jelentenek, milyen kísérleti terepet nyújt. Többször, többféleképpen definiáltam a futballkapukhoz fűződő viszonyomat. Az egyik, viszonylag pontos definíció az volt, hogy sikerült egy rendszert találnom, sikerült a megrendezettségig is eljutva, olyan helyzeteket kipróbálni, amik, a képpel való együttműködés eredményeképpen, átvezettek egy újabb szintre, és segítettek, hogy merre menjek tovább. Szinte még azt is mondhatnám, hogy a sorozat darabjai az életemet szimbolizálják.

Ten years ago I started the GOALPOSTS photography series, which I am still continuing. It is important for me that I can force myself to get deeply involved in a subject . I think the method of subject repetition, until I figure out the the bottom line, is a characteristic of my work. I've travelled to many places in the world. In the beginning the discovery was my motivation, then I recognised the research possibilities of the geometric form of the (forgotten or still in use) goalposts. I have redefined my relationship to these posts several times. One of the most relevant is that I could find a system which gave the possibility of new working methods: from documentation to staged situations and picture manipulations. As a result I could attain a new level of picture making and it helped me find my way. I would even say: the pictures of the series began to symbolise my life.
